Google Workspace adds voice tools, image editor, and AI agent
Google announced new AI features for Gmail, Docs, Keep, Drive and the Gemini app. The updates include voice-based tools, a new image editor called Google Pics, expanded AI Inbox features, and Gemini Spark, a personal AI agent that can act on a user’s behalf.
Google is adding a new set of AI features across Google Workspace and the Gemini app, including voice controls, image editing, inbox automation and a personal AI agent. The company said the updates are rolling out to Google AI subscribers and, in some cases, to Workspace business customers in preview.
The new features are aimed at the more than 4 billion people who use Google Workspace apps such as Gmail, Docs and Drive, according to Google. The company said the goal is to help users create, organize and complete tasks with less manual work.
One of the biggest changes is a group of conversational voice tools for Gmail, Docs and Keep. Google said Gmail Live lets users search their inbox by speaking natural-language requests such as asking for a flight gate number or school updates. The tool then searches the inbox and returns a synthesized answer.
Docs Live is designed to help users draft documents by voice. Google said it can organize a stream of ideas, build an outline and, with permission, pull relevant details from Gmail, Drive, Chat and the web. In Keep, users can speak loosely and the app will turn those comments into structured notes and lists.
Google said these voice features are rolling out to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers and will be in preview this summer for Google Workspace business customers.
Google also introduced Google Pics, a new image creation and editing app built on its latest Nano Banana model. The company said the tool is meant to give users more control than standard AI image generation, where small changes often require starting over.
Google Pics includes object segmentation, which lets users select and edit specific parts of an image without changing the rest. Google said users can move, resize or transform objects, such as changing the color of a sweater or turning a dog into a cat. The tool also supports text editing and translation inside images while keeping the original design and font style.
The company said Pics will integrate with Workspace apps, starting with Slides and Drive. It will also support shared canvases so multiple people can edit the same image at the same time. Google said the tool is launching today to a limited group of Trusted Testers and will roll out globally this summer to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, with a preview for Workspace business customers.
Google is also expanding AI Inbox in Gmail. Earlier this year, the company announced the feature as a way to prioritize important updates and time-sensitive tasks. Now it is adding personalized draft replies, instant access to related files and streamlined task management.
According to Google, AI Inbox can generate a contextual draft when an email needs a quick reply, surface the right Google Doc, Sheet or Slide beside a task, and let users mark tasks done or dismiss suggestions more easily. Google said AI Inbox is currently available to Google AI Ultra subscribers and in preview for Google Workspace Enterprise Plus customers, and it is now rolling out to all Google AI Plus and Pro subscribers in the U.S. with the new updates.
Google also announced Gemini Spark, a 24/7 personal AI agent in the Gemini app. The company said Spark is meant to move Gemini from answering questions to taking actions under a user’s direction, with safeguards for high-stakes actions such as sending emails or adding calendar events.
Google said users can choose whether to turn Spark on, and the system is designed to ask before completing sensitive actions. The company said Gemini Spark in Google Workspace will be available soon in preview for business customers in the Gemini app.
Taken together, the updates show Google pushing deeper into voice input, AI-assisted writing, image generation and task automation across its productivity products. The company said the features are intended to save time so users can focus on work that matters most.
